After conquering the world of publishing, fashion and communication in just a few years, Olimpia Zagnoli returns to Reggio Emilia, the city of her childhood, with an exhibition project capable of enhancing the countless facets of her work.
The exhibition retraces ten years of the illustrator’s career, showing her unmistakable traits in drawings, prints, neon, fabrics, ceramic, wood and Plexiglas sculptures as well as everyday objects.
The exhibition shows how this artist is able to express herself with the same ease with the languages of the visual arts and those of design and publishing, recounting in an immersive environment the complexity of the artist’s creative universe and her sources of inspiration, ranging from the history of art to that of design and graphics.
In the sixteenth-century spaces of the Chiostri di San Pietro – in whose external courtyards a large-format “garden of sculptures” will be set up thanks to the contribution of Marella fashion house – the works are combined by “free association” or by affinity of colour, subject and shape.
The selection of works on display includes some of her most iconic images, such as the poster for the New York transport company MTA and her covers for The New Yorker; there is no lack of unpublished youth drawings and sketches that reveal her creative process and working method.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by Lazy Dog Press, a publishing house specialising in illustration and graphic design books, and an agenda of side events designed and performed in collaboration with Reggio Children, the institution promoting the Reggio Approach, the educational philosophy of the schools and nursery schools in Reggio Emilia that the artist herself attended.
The exhibition is promoted by Fondazione Palazzo Magnani, in collaboration with the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, with the contribution of the Chamber of Commerce of Reggio Emilia and Fondazione Manodori and thanks to the support of Marella, Coopservice, Grissin Bon, Natura Si, Markeven and Coordonné.
